When I started my private practice, I thought I had it all figured out. How hard could it be, right?

I loved my job in community mental health. But with a toddler in daycare and another baby on the way, my low-paying, high-stress job just wasn’t sustainable. So, without much of a plan, I dove headfirst into private practice.

I rented an office, splurged on furniture, and waited for the clients to roll in. Guess what? They didn’t.

What followed was a cycle of panic, frustration, and desperation.

I lowered my rates to $80 a session (ouch!), offered a sliding scale, and "partnered" with one of those big insurance paneling companies that turned out to be a complete rip off.

I tried every marketing gimmick I could think of. Nothing worked. It was boom-and-bust chaos—scraping by with a few clients here and there while juggling expensive coaching programs that recycled the same tired advice.

And then, I hit a wall. Enough was enough.

After years of following cookie-cutter plans designed for someone else, I realized the problem wasn’t me. It was the one-size-fits-all approach.
